Ahead of Round 7 of the FIA Formula 2 season, DAMS driver Ayumu Iwasa says he thinks Silverstone will be “quite good” for him, despite having never driven the circuit before.
Japanese F2 rookie Iwasa said: “Silverstone will be difficult, but I have already been to tracks this year that I have never driven before and still managed to have a good, competitive weekend.”
However, the Red Bull Junior Team driver does not think that the novelty of Silverstone will hold him back.
“The track is quite flat and technical,” the 20-year-old explained, “It is similar to Hungary and some tracks in Japan, so that’s good.”
Iwasa stressed the importance of a good practice session, ahead of Friday afternoon’s qualifying: “I need to get good confidence in practice as I must qualify well, that is what I need so that I can get the good result that has been missing from the last few events.”
In his first year of Formula 2 competition, Iwasa has shown flashes of speed but has struggled for high profile results, achieving just a single podium at the fourth round in Spain, in the Sprint Race.
However, following that second-place finish, the Japanese driver has only scored points in one of the next five races, leaving him 14th with 29-points so far.
