DAMS’ driver Ayumu Iwasa will be focussing on a strong Qualifying in FIA Formula 2’s Abu Dhabi season finale.
The Japanese driver, who has yet to announce his 2023 plans, said: “I think that it is not so easy to overtake in Abu Dhabi.
“On the new layout it should be a bit easier, but still Qualifying will be important, so I will focus on that.”
Iwasa has experience of the revised layout at the Yas Marina circuit, introduced for 2021, from the private test the 21-year-old took part in, at the end of last year.
Looking back at his performance in that test, the Red Bull Junior Team driver said: “My performance was not so impressive then, so I am very interested to see my big improvement since.”
Iwasa added: “I really enjoy sector 3, with a lot of corners that make it fun to drive fats but not good for overtaking.”
DAMS are currently seventh in the Teams’ Standings, a single point behind Virtuosi and two-points ahead of Czech team Charouz.
Iwasa’s second half of 2022 has seen the Japanese make two important breakthrough’s with his first Feature Race win in France, before a maiden pole position in Budapest.
Iwasa’s solitary win and four other podium appearances have the 21-year-old ninth in the Drivers’ Standings and a successful weekend could see the Osaka-born driver rise as high third in the table.
