Jak Crawford Confident Of Australia Points Despite Grid Drop

American driver Jak Crawford believes points are still possible in both FIA Formula 2 races in Australia this weekend, despite being demoted 10 places on the grid in each event.

The DAMS Lucas Oil team, along with Trident and Rodin Motorsport, were penalised by the stewards in Melbourne.

The three teams were found to have broken Article 10.2a of the FIA Sporting Regulations as well as Article 1.5.2, Article 8.4.10 and Article 8.4.11 of the FIA Formula 2 Technical Regulations.

Each of the teams cars were found with an air pressure sensor installed via the drilling of holes in the diffusor to convey the airflow beneath it into the pipeline of the pressure sensor, modifying a standard part in the process.

Crawford, 19, says he will be using his experience in 2024, when he started both the Sprint and Feature race from last on the grid.

The teenager said: “I started last in both races and I scored points both times, so we’ll see.

“Anything can happen at this track, it’s usually quite a chaotic race with lots of overtaking and lots of fighting.

“I’m looking forward to making up positions, we’ve always been really strong in race conditions, so I see no reason why we can’t fight for good points.”

Crawford qualified third in Friday’s Qualifying session, and will start both races from outside the top 10.
