Competing in the 2025 FIA Formula 2 Championship for DAMS Lucas Oil, Oak Crawford made his debut in 2023 with Hitech Pulse-Eight. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, Crawford has been a standout talent in motorsport from a young age, progressing through various single-seater series.
His presence in Formula 2 in 2025 marks a pivotal moment in his career, as he aims to further establish himself as one of the brightest young talents in the racing world.
Pre-Formulae Racing
Crawford started his karting career in 2011 after moving to Houston, Texas, with his family. He competed in North America and won the Challenge of the Americas – Junior Rotax Series in 2017, along with the X30 Junior at the SKUSA SuperNationals. At this time, his international karting career was sporadic, but Crawford won the Rok Cup International Championship at just 9 years old in 2014.
Formula 4 – NACAM, German, Italian, & ADAC
Crawford’s NACAM Formula 4 Championship debut was in 2018 with Scuderia Martiga EG. He won six races and achieved eight podiums, causing him to finish second in the series. In 2020, Crawford raced in the German and Italian Formula 4 Championships. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic reduced him to a part-time driver. The American would finish second in the ADAC F4 Championship and sixth in the Italian Championship.
Indy Car
The U.S F2000 hosted Crawford in April 2019 with DEForce Racing to drive some rounds since he wasn’t old enough to race in the series, being only 13 years old at the time. In July of the same year, he switched to Cape Motorsport and drove the final five rounds. Crawford finished seventh in the standings.
Euroformula Open
Crawford’s participation with Motopark in the 2021 Euroformula Open, alongside his FIA Formula 3 commitments, was announced. However, due to not meeting the age requirements again, he missed the first two races of the season. Despite this obstacle, he took eight wins and two podium finishes. The driver finished the series in third.
Formula Regional
Crawford drove in the Formula Regional Asian Championship with Prema Racing in January 2022. He achieved 3 podiums and finished sixth overall. In 2023, with Hitech, he drove in three rounds of the 2023 Formula Regional Middle East Championship.
FIA Formula 3 Championship
In October 2020, Crawford partook in the first and second post-season testing with Hitech. Hitech confirmed Crawford as a driver for the 2021 season, with him finishing 13th that season. Prema Racing confirmed the American driver for the 2022 season. He finished with four podiums, one race win, and seventh overall.
Formula E
In May 2024, Andretti Formula E announced Crawford would take part in the Berlin rookie test for the team. Later that year, Andretti revealed Crawford as their reserve driver for the 2024-2025 season. He returned to Formula E racing during the Jeddah eProx for the rookie Free Practice session.
FIA Formula 2 Championship
In 2023, Crawford drove for Hitech once more with now FVisa Cash App Racing Bulls Formula One Team racer Isack Hadjar. He began his rookie season by completing Qualifying in 19th, finishing the Sprint Race in 14th, and the Feature Race in 12th. Wanting to do better in the next race in Jeddah, Crawford qualified in 10th meaning he would start the Sprint Race from reverse pole. He led for one lap before being passed by Ayumu Iwasa, Ralph Boschung, Jehan Daruvala, Victor Martins, Kush Maini, Frederik Vesti, and Jack Doohan, causing him to drop to 8th. Crawford missed out on scoring his first point by 0.175 seconds when he got passed by Dennis Hauger on the line. Overall, he finished the 2023 season 13th in the drivers’ championship with 57 points, one win, four podiums, and one pole position. With this result, he helped Hitech Pulse-Eight finish eight in the teams’ championship.
During post-season testing in 2023, Crawford drove for DAMS Lucas Oil, finishing third fastest on day 1. This helped the team decide to sign Crawford for the 2024 season. He started his second season by qualifying 10th in Bahrain, the second time he would start in pole position for the Sprint Race. During the Sprint Race, he had to settle for 2nd place since Zane Maloney on Lap 8. The Feature Race proved to be a little more difficult, causing him to stall in the pits on Lap 16 and ultimately having to retire from the race entirely. The Jeddah race started to become more hopeful for Crawford since he qualified 3rd, placed 5th in the Sprint Race, and 4th in the Feature Race. This would prove to be a stark contrast to the Imola race since Crawford and Kush Maini collided on Lap 1 of the Feature Race. Overall, the 2024 season proved to be more successful than his rookie season, finishing the driver’s championship in 5th with 125 points. He finished the season with one win, six podiums, and one fast lap. In post-season testing, he ended the first day with the fastest time. Crawford continues with DAMS Lucas Oil for the 2025 FIA Formula 2 season.
Formula 1 – Academies & Testing
It was announced in January 2020 that Crawford joined the Red Bull Junior Team. After four years, he left the junior team and signed with the Aston Martin Driver Development Programme for 2024. Since joining the Aston Martin team, Crawford made his Formula 1 debut by driving the Aston Martin AMR22 at the Red Bull Ring. He also drove the AMR24 at the Yas Marina Circuit after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for the Young Driver Test. With Cadillac coming to be a team in 2026, Jak Crawford could very well be one of the next American Formula 1 drivers.
