Jamie Chadwick dominates the second round of the W Series Championship 2022, ahead of fellow Brit and Alpine Affiliate, Abbi Pulling.
It was Chadwick who took pole position for the only race of the weekend (only Miami and Mexico hold more than one). Last year’s runner up, Alice Powell qualified just behind Chadwick by only three tenths of a second.
Saturday’s race was difficult for all of the drivers, track temperatures were extremely high. W Series isn’t traditionally a series with pit stops, so due to the conditions, it was all about looking after the tyres.
Chadwick got away well off the line and she was closely followed by Pulling from third on the grid. She managed to get a better start than her mentor, Powell. Abbi had great pace throughout the course of the race and at times was even quicker than Jamie ahead. However, due to the nature of the circuit, Pulling was unable to pass and finished the race in second, just a third of a second behind the reigning champion.
Powell made it an all British podium as she also began to catch the leaders in the closing stages of the race. This meant that the three on the podium are now also the same top three in the championship ahead of the next round at Silverstone.
Nerea Marti gained three places from her starting grid position to finish eighth, behind fellow Spaniards Marta García and Belén García.
The race ended under yellow flag conditions as Jenner Racing driver, Chloe Chambers, lost her car into the gravel on the final lap of the race. She was previously running in 14th before the spin.
This means that Chadwick makes it five wins in the last five races. She also extended her championship lead by 39 points, ahead of Pulling and Powell.
