PREMA Racing driver Oliver Bearman is looking forward to Round 2 of the FIA Formula 2 season in Saudi Arabia, calling the Jeddah circuits one of his favourites.

The Ferrari Academy driver has no points heading the seaside circuit after an opening weekend in Bahrain where his PREMA team lacked pace.

It was a similar situation the 19-year-old faced last season as a rookie, but qualified on the front row on his first visit to Jeddah.

“It’s [Jeddah] one of my favourite circuits because the grip level is really high,” the Briton said.

He added: “The fact that it’s a street track adds a bit of adrenaline.”

The all-important Qualifying session for the Feature Race takes place on Thursday, ahead of Friday’s Sprint Race.

The Feature Race is on Saturday.

Handling the heat and aiming high

The teenager says he’s is prepared for a physically tough weekend, with the high temperatures of the Middle East.

“For the drivers, the heat is a tough one,” Bearman said.

“We have to prepare physically and also cool ourselves down.”

He said 2023’s Feature Race was one of the seasons hardest due to the hot temperatures causing the tyres to degrade more.

Bearman was beaten to pole position in 2023 by ART’s Victor Martins, and says being precise is vital.

“You have to be really close to the walls but also not too close,” he said.

“It’s a fine line between a perfect Qualifying lap and not finishing it,” Bearman added.

“The high speed section takes a lot of commitment, so you need to build up your confidence there and get it right.”

Bearman’s aiming to return to form after his difficulties in Bahrain, which included picking up damage during the Feature Race.

“I’m looking to build on what I did last year [in Jeddah],” he said.

“I know I can have good pace here and of course I would like to finish on the top step [of the podium].”
