MP Motorsport’s Kush Maini believes overtaking is possible at the new-look Barcelona layout, although the Indian racer still concedes overtaking will be at a premium in FIA Formula 2 this weekend.
Speaking straight after the sole practice session on Friday, the Indian racer gave his thoughts on the changed circuit’s final sector.
“I like the new layout. A tricky free practice, but we will figure it out for Quali.”
When asked about qualifying, and whether the session will again be the key one for the weekend as in Monaco last weekend, Maini didn’t believe so.
“Er, no. Because there’s some stuff with tyres and deg, some deg as well.
“So strategy comes into play and how you look after your tyres. [It’s] definitely difficult to pass but if you have a grip advantage it’s easy anywhere to pass.”
With Maini sitting P4 in the championship as the top rookie, you might think it’d be easy for 22-year-old driver to believe the hype.
He disagreed with any statements about him being a star of the season, however, playing it cool when looking at his chances for the rest of the year.
“I’m having a good year. Still a long long way to go. I wouldn’t say I’m a star just yet, but a good start and just want to keep it going this way.”
