Kush Maini achieved a brilliant P3 in Qualifying at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, as ART enjoyed it’s strongest Qualifying session of the year.
One thousandth of a second ultimately split him and Rodin Motorsport’s Alex Dunne in P2 which would have given him a better advantage in Sunday’s Grand Prix, while Rafael Câmara took top spot in pole position.
His team mate, Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak underlined the ART’s speed on Friday as he was sixth fastest, following his fifth placed finish in Austria last time out.
With this extremely tight margin, how did he find the session?
“Obviously Run 1, the first lap, I was happy with,” the Indian said. “I think we were P1, Alex did a good lap on the second lap and I didn’t have the grip. So going into the second set, I knew it was going to be tight between a couple of us.
“The lap was good until sector 3, I didn’t really put it together. I think the car was great today and a bit of loss from my side.
“I don’t know if it would have been good enough for pole but definitely a lot closer but still P3. In a championship like F2, sometimes it doesn’t matter whether you’re first or third in the start.
“It puts me in a decent position for tomorrow and get points in both races, so generally happy.”
When asked if he knew what happened in sector 3, and whether could suggest what he could have done differently to gain a better position.
“I just missed Stowe, I did the wet line basically and I was missing the rubber. So for sure a bit lost there. But if you ask these two guys, I’m sure they can pick out places they could’ve done better.”
Pointing to Câmara, he joked about what his response would be: “Then he will say he can go another tenth or two quicker!”
Formula 2 continues this weekend with the Sprint Race at 11:45 local time on Saturday the 4th of July and the Feature Race at 11:15 local time on Sunday the 5th of July.
