Leonardo Fornaroli, current Formula 3 champion, will make his Formula 2 debut with Rodin Motorsport during the Abu Dhabi GP. The team announced this through their social media, confirming that the 19-year-old Italian will take the place of Zane Maloney, who is preparing to start in Formula E in Brazil.
Fornaroli‘s arrival in the category comes after an impressive F3 season, where he demonstrated remarkable consistency by securing seven podiums and regularly scoring points throughout the championship. Despite the challenge of debuting without prior tests, the young driver remains optimistic.
“This is my first experience with this car, and I have a lot to learn, but I’m eager to face it and can’t wait to be on the track in Abu Dhabi.”
The Team Manager, Benn Huntingford, expressed confidence in the new signing:
“It’s great to welcome Leo to the team for the final round of the season. It’s going to be a step up for him, but we’ve seen what he can do in Formula 3, and we’re confident he’ll adapt quickly and perform well.” Regarding Maloney, he added: “ We thank him for his contributions and wish him the best in his new venture.”
Maloney, who will face his final challenge for the team on the unprecedented Qatar circuit, shows enthusiasm for the farewell:
“I wish Leo a great weekend in Abu Dhabi. I will miss working with the Rodin Motorsport team and look forward to seeing their success in the future! But we still have one more weekend in Qatar to look ahead to and finish off our season strongly.”
Formula 2 returns next weekend for the 13th stage of the season, from November 29 to December 1, at the Lusail International Circuit in Qatar. It will be the first time the category competes on the 5.419 km track, promising a historic and challenging weekend for drivers and teams due to the weather conditions.
