Liam Lawson Hunting for Points

Red Bull’s Liam Lawson ready to go hunting for points after promising start of the 2022 season

It’s been a great start to the 2022 season for New Zealander Liam Lawson, placed in second position in the FIA Formula 2 Drivers’ Championship, he has secured 34 points in the first four races of the year.

The Red Bull junior driver comes out of testing with his F2 Team Carlin very confident he will be able to score points in Imola, despite racing on the Italian track for the first time in his career.

After stepping on the podium three times in the first two rounds of the season in Sakhir and Jeddah,  the 20-year-old spent three days testing his Dallara Mechachrome-engined car in Barcelona with his team.

Lawson has revealed the temperature in Spain during testing was still quite cool, but is expected to become warmer once the F2 Circus will be racing on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya between the 20th-22nd of May.

This will require him to slightly adapt to the most actual conditions, but as far as the tests are concerned, “they were very useful” stated the Red Bull Academy driver.

The New Zealander claimed to be “excited to race in Imola, as it is a very good track with a lot of history and a layout that has developed in the last ten years to something that is very very cool”.  His expectations match his positive feelings, as he confirms he is “looking to score well both on Saturday and Sunday”.

The Round 3 of the FIA Formula 2 World Championship will take place in Imola, at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari between the 22nd-24th of April 2022.
