ART Grand Prix driver Kush Maini took victory in the Barcelona Sprint Race, in a dominant display over the rest of the field.
Starting in P2, the Indian driver took no time to jump into the lead, overtaking pole-sitter Noel León into Turn 1 before sprinting away in dominant fashion, finishing over 3 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
Championship rivals Gabriele Minì and Nikola Tsolov found themselves sharing the same piece of tarmac for much of the race, clashing wheels in an engaging fight for the other podium places. In the end, they both ended up on the podium, with Minì just pipping Tsolov for second place.
Colton Herta was another standout of the race, and found himself amongst the podium positions for much of the Sprint.
A last lap mistake took him from third to fifth, but the American’s ability to hang in and race competitively caught the attention of many – especially with rumours of a Formula 1 future swirling for Herta.
Elsewhere in the field, Joshua Dürksen once again found himself without any luck, being sent into the gravel by Martinius Stenshorne on the opening lap.
Whilst both drivers could continue, Stenshorne received a 10 second penalty for the contact, which sent Dürksen to the back of the field.
Additional penalties were handed out due to track limits violations, with many drivers falling foul of these. Most notably was Roman Bilinski, who received multiple penalties for the violations.
For Feature Race pole-sitter Rafael Câmara, it was a sixth place finish, highlighted by impressive battling against Herta and León in the late stages.
The Invicta man will be hoping to capitalise on this good pace in tomorrow’s main race, where he will be starting alongside team mate Dürksen.
The Feature Race promises to deliver lots of wheel to wheel action, and further championship fighting between multiple teams.
With a scheduled start of 11:25am local time, make sure to catch all the action, to see if Câmara can claim his first F2 win of the year, or if Gabriele Minì can extend his championship lead.
