Martí Looks to Continue Impressive Form in Melbourne

FIA Formula 2 returns down under for the second time in its history, with drivers and teams looking to build on their performances from the opening two rounds of the 2024 season.

One of the standout drivers so far has been Spaniard Josep Maria Martí. The Campos driver is looking to continue his impressive start to his rookie campaign, where he has scored three points finishes and currently sits sixth in the standings.

He started his 2024 season strong with a double podium in his first ever Formula 2 round in Bahrain. A difficult Qualifying in Jeddah put him on the backfoot but he was able to recover points in the Sprint Race where he finished seventh.

Martí was less fortunate in the Feature Race after losing grip mid corner at the beginning of the race, resulting in his first DNF of the season.

When speaking with InsideF2 on Thursday, Martí discussed whether his perceptions of success had changed after the first two rounds of the season, given his eye-catching start.

“Personally, no. I am still a rookie, I still have a lot of new tracks to discover. I still have a lot to learn from my engineers, my teammate (and) the rest of the grid, because every lap you learn something.

“I think I learned a lot in Bahrain. Obviously, in Jeddah I didn’t have as much running. But even in Jeddah, fighting other people in the sprint race, you learn a lot of things.”

As a member of the Red Bull junior team, Martí will know all too well the pressure that comes with being part of such a ruthless driver programme. However, the Campos driver maintains that the only pressure on him is the pressure that he is putting on himself.

“If anyone is going to put pressure on my shoulders, it is going to be myself. So yeah, I am not feeling pressure, but obviously I know that I have to perform.”
