Victor Martins has enjoyed blistering one-lap speed in recent FIA Formula 2 races, scoring two pole positions and a second place for ART in Hungary.
The Frenchman won the Feature Race at Silverstone, boosting him to fifth in the championship after a problematic start to the campaign.
While speaking to the media in the press conference, the Alpine Junior said he is brimming with confidence to deliver superb results, despite a minor error in qualifying.
“I will say now I have the confidence that we can be until the end in the top three every time.
“I had a little moment today, a little mistake, but I tried to to turn it around and still managed P2. So in the end, it’s giving me confidence that every time we will have the chance to make it.”
The Frenchman underlined the importance of continuing to work hard and building confidence to maximise his results.
“[I] keep working hard, keep knowing the car well, to use it and maximise everything; warm-up for the tyres, for the brakes, get everything right. Also for the traffic, get a good strategy with the team.
“Keep the confidence when you deliver all the time, it’s, of course, easier to keep going, keep the momentum. It’s always good to start the weekend like that. But I want to just keep working, keep believing it, and do it in the end.”
Jack Doohan stormed to his first pole position of the season as he looks to put a subpar start to 2023 behind him.
The front row of Sunday’s Feature Race will consist of two Alpine young drivers, with the championship leader Frederik Vesti in third for PREMA.
The pole sitter explained the dynamic of the Alpine programme and the competitive edge between himself and Martins.
“We’re very mutual,” begins Doohan. “But like everyone, really, regardless of the academy or not, we’re all trying to achieve our dreams. So we work as hard as possible to get there.
“I’m sure he wants to be in front of me. I want to be in front of him, as we all do.
“But occasionally, you need to step back and credit where credits due when each other does a good result. But it’s great for the team also that we get a result in qualifying like this.”
