Last year’s Formula 3 stars, Martins, Bearman, and Kush Maini managed to put over half of a second between themselves and their more experienced rivals after the first set of push laps.
The red flag was brought out by a stranded Richard Verschoor. He spun off at Turn 21 but despite causing no damage to his car, he could not continue in the session as stated in the new regulations for 2023.
The green flag was flown a few minutes later with Arthur Leclerc at the top of the timing sheets. He managed to put in a lap just before the red flag, he set a time of 1:42.629.
On the first flying laps after the red flag, Martins impressively went fastest by 0.744 seconds ahead of Bearman in second place.
The session was brought to an early end by a red flag. Leclerc lost his rear tyres on the exit of Turn 16, causing him to hit the wall after a moment of oversteer, snapping his suspension and forcing him to pull over.
Jak Crawford will start tomorrow’s Sprint Race from reverse grid pole ahead of Bahrain’s winner, Ralph Boschung.
