MP Motorsport started their FIA Formula 2 season in style. Both drivers really making steps in the right direction on Sunday following a tough opening Feature Race.
Filipe Drugovich took the spoils as he capped off his maiden weekend in Formula 2 with a commanding performance in Sundays Sprint Race.
The weekend, however, did not start as the pair would have hoped;
“It was a tough day because of some electrical issues, but from the back to P9 is not bad at all.” stated Japanese driver Matsushita following race one of the weekend.
The progress shown by Matsushita from back to front was in contract to his Brazilian teammates drive.
“It was a complicated first race for me in Formula 2, starting from P2 and finishing P8. I really learned a lot from it and will take with me and use it, starting from pole in the Sprint Race.
The rookie was true to his word as he dominated the Sprint Race come Sunday from start to finish to take his first win in the championship.
“It was an amazing race, probably the best of my life. Compared to yesterday I Improved my driving style and the guys improved the car. Both combined made a huge difference, and we could fix yesterday’s damage with my start and driving. The pace and the entire race was amazing.”
Matsushita was quick to praise his younger teammate;
“First of all congratulations to Felipe! I am so happy for him and the whole team.”
All eyes are now on the experienced driver to show thus and claim a bundle of points and get ahead of his rookie partner.
“There are always things to improve, let’s push hard for the next week for revenge and good points.”
All in all for the Dutch team they will be delighted with the weekends outcome and will hope to build on this haul of points as we copy and paste to do it all again this weekend.
