Nerea Ready for Barcelona Weekend

Following her first pole position and another podium in Miami, Nerea Marti and the W Series travel to Barcelona, Spain, this weekend (20-21 May).

InsideF2.com spoke exclusively with Nerea, as part of her season diary feature on the platform about the upcoming round. The Spanish driver will be very excited to take on the field on home soil as she looks to build on an overall positive weekend at the Miami double-header two weeks ago.

We asked about her feelings about racing on home soil at the Circuit de BarcelonaCatalunya and if that will offer any kind of advantage;

“Racing in Spain is an advantage but we all know the track and it will be difficult anyway. I am prepared to give my 100% and be as high as possible”

Following on from the opening weekend in Miami, Nerea sits second in the standings with 23 points, just behind two time series champion Jamie Chadwick. Nerea reflected on the weekend positively and the obvious disappointment of race 1’s lost positions at the start;

“There are things that I have to learn, in the end, I finished in sixth position but I would have liked to get more points for the championship. I am happy with the comeback”

Speaking with W-Series media post-race she explained, “I am very happy about Miami, I think there has been a step since last year. I still have to improve and learn from the mistakes I made in Miami. there is still much to learn but we are on the way. I feel more confident and more eager to continue working. the results in Miami have helped me to be more motivated for the next races’

The Miami venue proved to be a challenge for various reasons for all categories overall, Nerea explained how she reflected on it from the cockpit.

“The temperatures were super high and the humidity was horrible but I also think it was a super event. I loved it and hope to go there again very soon. It was the first race of the year, I was really looking forward to it and I think I’ve made a good step since last year.”

Looking ahead to this weekend the Spanish driver looks to live and learn to maximize the most of the weekend’s potential.

“I want to improve Miami’s mistakes, be focused, and be able to be as consistent as possible for the championship. I know the circuit well so I would love to be able to take victory in Barcelona. It is a circuit with fast and slow corners, you need confidence and patience in the race.
We all know the circuit of the test we did before the season so I think the times will be tighter.” (Source: W-series media)

W Series’ schedule for this weekend starts on Friday 20 May with a 30-minute practice session at 10.40 (local time, CEST), followed by qualifying from 19.25 to 19.55 on the same day. The race starts at 14.40 on Saturday 21 May and will be 30 minutes plus one lap.
