After becoming Mexico’s first FIA Formula 2 winner last round in Canada, Noel Léon took victory once again in the Sprint Race around the principality.

The Campos Racing driver had a dream start from reverse grid pole ahead of Roman Bilinski. The pair made slight contact but didn’t sustain any damage or catch the attention of the stewards.

Bilinski remained hot on the race leader’s rear wing for the first few laps with current championship leader, Gabriele Minì following closely behind. The tricky nature of the circuit when it comes to overtaking meant the top three stayed the same throughout the race.

Minì’s MP Motorsport team mate, Oliver Goethe suffered a difficult Monaco Sprint Race. Contact with Ritomo Miyata on Lap 1 ruined his race. He pitted on Lap 3 to make some repairs, but later pulled into the pits to retire on Lap 25.

Another driver to struggle around the street circuit was last round’s pole-sitter, Laurens van Hoepen. He received a 10 second time penalty early on for leaving the track and gaining an advantage at Sainte Devote on Lap 1.

Later in the race, he made contact with Mari Boya in a battle for the lower positions. Boya made a lunge on van Hoepen at La Rascasse but couldn’t get through until eight laps later at the Loews Hairpin with a very bold move for P14.

León took the chequered flag after catching the backmarkers and stood on the top step of one of motorsport’s most iconic podiums.

Suffering a technical issue on his cool down lap, Dino Beganovic was forced to pull to the side of the track in the Swimming Pool section.

Nikola Tsolov won the race long duel for the fastest lap point after being told by his race engineer to keep it clean and not risk the point for his championship battle. He currently sits fifth in the standings, with not much separating himself and León in second place. Minì still holds his lead, 20 points ahead.
