After securing his fifth podium of the season with a third-place finish at Monza, Noel León spoke about the race just after crossing the finish line. The Mexican driver talked about recovering positions after a qualifying penalty, tire management in the final stint, and the battle with the Invicta drivers for the lead.
“Quite a good race to be honest. We managed to do everything well. We recovered some positions. It was unfortunate to take that penalty from qualifying, so that dropped me to P7, and then finishing on the podium is the best way to make up for it.”
The Mexican acknowledged, however, that the Invicta pair were simply a level above in the closing stages of the race. “These guys were just a bit too quick for me today. I tried to keep it until the end, but the last laps they were quite fast. So yeah, very happy with the team, with the work they’ve been doing, and in general the whole weekend.”
Asked whether it was difficult to manage the tires in that final stint, trying to close the gap to Joshua and Rafa, León explained the gap at the end had simply grown too big to close.
“Yes, I think so, at the end there was not too big a gap. We were doing quali laps, and I couldn’t do the last three laps as a quali lap. So there it started to create a gap. And yeah, if they were battling each other, I think we would get a chance, but they never got it. So yeah, just happy with our P3 for the weekend.”
