Ollie Bearman Wins in Monza in Front of Tifosi

Ferrari F1 Academy driver and Haas F1 graduate, Ollie Bearman wins in front of the tifosi in Monza, holding off Victor Martins for his second victory of the FIA Formula 2 2024 season.

Enzo Fittipaldi lost his lead from reverse-grid pole to third placed, Pepe Martí who overtook the Brazilian into Turn 1.

Behind them, Oliver Goethe found the wall on the main straight after making contact with Zak O’Sullivan. Also involved was Mercedes 2025 F1 driver, Kimi Antonelli who was caught off guard by O’Sullivan who was struggling with damage into the first chicane.

Antonelli was forced to pit as a result, with front wing damage and a puncture from the contact. He came out at the back of the pack with supersoft tyres fitted.

Goethe started 11th after an impressive debut Qualifying session on Friday. He replaces Franco Colapinto for the rest of the season with MP Motorsport. Colapinto was called up to drive for Williams F1 earlier this week.

The Safety Car came in at the end of Lap 3 and Fittipaldi took the opportunity to try and retake the lead from Martí but locked up into the Rettifilo Chicane, forcing him to take to the escape road. He dropped down to fourth behind Martins and Bearman.

Martí was the next driver to make his way around the bollards, giving the lead to Bearman.

Martí started to struggle on his tyres, complaining he’s driving, ‘on ice’ over the team radio after dropping down to fifth.

Gabriel Bortoleto started from the back of the grid after a spin in Qualifying but found himself in the top 10 by Lap 12, ahead of Isack Hadjar his championship rival who couldn’t find pace throughout the Sprint Race.

Zane Maloney and Paul Aron made contact battling for sixth place in the closing stages of the race. Martí in fourth led a DRS train all the way back to Bortoleto in tenth.

Aron dropped to the back of the field and eventually pitted to retire his Hitech on the final lap of the race.

Bearman took the chequered flag in Monza ahead of Martins who put in the fastest lap of the Sprint on the final tour.

Paraguayan driver, Joshua Dürksen took the final place on the podium after a brave overtake on Fittipaldi in the opening stages of the race, his second podium of the year.
