Cem Bölükbasi and Jehan Daruvala, have discussed how Baku will offer drivers and teams plenty of overtaking, and well thought out race strategies, this coming weekend in Round 6 of the FIA Formula 2 Championship.
I spoke with both drivers earlier today…
Charouz’s, Cem Bölükbasi, stated:
“I’ve done the track walk, but I haven’t done a lap around it yet.
“But I like the braking zone, so that should be fun, and create some overtaking spots, like in Turn 1, and Turn 3. We know it’s pretty easy to overtake at this track, and that’s always exciting.”
On the back of two very good results last time out in Monaco, the Charouz driver was full of enthusiasm:
“It should be a good race, with a lot of overtaking and different strategies.”
PREMA driver, Jehan Darvala, added:
“I think Baku provides a lot of opportunity for racing, apart from it being a special track [street circuit], it also, unlike Monaco, has a lot of racing.”
All three races last year offered an action packed weekend, and did not disappoint to entertain Formula 2 fans.
“If you look back at the past few races from last year there was a lot of overtaking. It’s so much like old school racing, where if you’re fast, you can move forward. It keeps it pretty simple and exciting.”
Last year’s results demonstrate how Daruvala is well suited to this circuit. He finished in the points in all three races; enjoying P4 in the first Sprint Race, a seventh in the Feature, and the Red Bull junior celebrated a third place on the podium in the second Sprint.
No doubt he’ll be thinking about those results as he jumps into his improving PREMA car this weekend:
“I’m looking forward to it, we have pace, and it’s definitely a good weekend to have some pace.”
