Putting in a perfect qualifying lap at the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit will be critical for FIA Formula 2 drivers, Dennis Hauger and Ayumu Iwasa. Any mistakes and it’s a long way back to the pit lane to reset.
Not only that, any points lost this weekend will make all the difference in the final push to finish as high as possible in the Drivers’ Championship.
Both Red Bull Juniors looked refreshed and relaxed after the summer break, ready to take on the challenges of the longest lap on the current race calendar [7.004km].
PREMA driver, Hauger, stated:
“It’s a really long track and very important to get a clean one. And it can make a difference getting a clean one and maximising everything again on a qualifying lap.
“We don’t get too many laps in Qualifying because the track is such a long one, so to really pull it together when it matters, is quite important here.”
Standing in seventh place in the F2 Championship, DAMS driver Iwasa said:
“I think this track is really difficult in one lap. For example if I’m doing a really good lap until the last chicane, the last chicane should be big under pressure, but it’s easy to make a mistake. In Qualifying I need to be smart, because even if I make a small mistake, I need to do a good lap.
“This track is quite special to me in Qualifying because there is a lot of kinds of corners and mostly high speed and medium speed.
“I have a lot of things to think. Actually I’m really interested to see the Qualifying myself because it will be important even for the race. So I need to get a good position qualifying.”
