DAMS Team Owner Charles Pic praised Ayumu Iwasa after his superb weekend at the Hungaroring where he drove to third place in the Feature Race.
The French team are currently sixth in the championship engrossed in an intense duel for P6 in the Teams’ championship with Charouz. Just four points separate the two outfits with four rounds left this season.
Pic explained that Iwasa was on great form in qualifying and drove a great lap to be three tenths ahead of his nearest rival, a sizeable margin in Formula 2. He also discussed The Red Bull Junior’s performances in the races.
“Once again, the team and Ayu did a great job to find the right setup and Ayu put in an amazing lap to be so far clear of the other drivers. We were also happy with the pace in the Sprint Race, with Ayu making up two places to finish P8.
“In the Feature Race we didn’t get the ideal start with Ayu but we made up a position thanks to some great work by the crew in the pits. Tyre degradation was tough but we held on to take another podium, which is a great result for us.”
DAMS driver Roy Nissany endured a point-less weekend at the Hungaroring as slight gremlins hindered him from maximising his potential.
The 27-year-old currently sits P17 in the standings with a best finish of fourth place in the Sprint Race at Imola.
The former Formula 1 driver Pic said: “Roy is struggling a bit with the car in qualifying, although his race pace is still good.
“Unfortunately he wasn’t able to move through the field to the points like he did at Paul Ricard, so we’ll keep working hard over the next few weeks for him to return strongly at Spa at the end of August.”
