Following todays sprint race around the unforgiving Principality, Mini was left feeling confident around a track where he has been very successful in the earlier formulas, having had three victories in Monaco over the past few years.
During one of the most nail biting feature races of the season, Mini kept his cool and bought the car home in P2, finishing over 3 seconds ahead of Hitech’s Luke Browning, recalling how he tried to keep pushing Kush Maini up ahead and at some points “almost pushing him in some corners and trying to make his do a mistake” however credited how well he performed under constant pressure to claim his first win of the season.
After spending more or less “three quarters of the race on Kush’s gearbox”, Mini described the complexity of the race following that point, highlighting that the main focus towards the end was less prioritised on defending, but trying to set the fastest lap of the race yet on tyres that had been “ruined” but his persistent attack.
Following being asked if he felt he could become any closer to Kush to try and make him make a mistake Mini replied “Well, I think to push him to make a mistake I could have not been any closer because I would have crashed into him. But to try to over take the problem is that every time at the exit of the corner you open a small gap and with the speed I just cover more distance so it’s quite complicated to actually do a send without crashing. So I just tried to make him do a mistake which didn’t happen, but I think he was the best I could try.”
However, after Mini’s best finish of the season following a difficult weekend in Imola, the first of the European triple header, he expressed his hopefulness for tomorrows feature race as starting in the top three, “I think you will finish more less there less there is a crash. It’s quite uh complicated to to overtake”. He indicated that its all about trying to keep the car out of the walls and not to focus too much on overtaking and describes having to “play smart and use their pace” to maximise his position for tomorrows feature race, which offers almost double the points for the top 10 finishers compared to in the sprint race.
