Post Season Testing 2020 Day One

Just when you thought the season was wrapped up like your Christmas presents, we come back with more Formula 2 gifts.

A host of drivers from both Formula 2 and Formula 3’s ranks hit the track for run out, ahead of any potential teams and team and driver selections for 2021. (Read more on line up’s here)

The day’s session was brought to a halt to ensure that all the appropriate marshalling and safety support was in place. This early delay and resumption of the session meant that the finish time on track was 6.30pm local time with no afternoon break. Despite the team’s lack of tea and biscuits mid-session we saw some solid lap times clocked up.

We will start at the top of the table, Jehan Daruvala’s continued is end of season form in Formula 2 with a 1:41.848 to finish top after fifty-two laps. He was followed by his Carlin teammate for the session Dan Ticktum with a 1:41.954.

In the 1:42’s we had Louis Delétraz completing the top three in at MP Motorsport.

PREMA pairing Robert Shwartzman and Formula 3 Champion Oscar Piastri come in fourth and fifth respectively in the 1:42’s.

Many Formula 2 fans would have been keep to see how Callum Ilott got on with the Charouz. Following 46 Laps he pushed the car up to sixth with a 1:42.450 ahead of teammate David Beckmann’s 1:43.309 following 43 laps on the circuit.

UNI-Virtuosi’s new line up of Guanyu Zhou and Felipe Drugovich finished in eighth and ninth in the 1:42’s, while ART Grand Prix’s Christian Lundgaard completed the top ten.

Other highlights from the day included new faces on the F2 grid, Liam Lawson, Lirium Zendeli and Matteo Nannini.

American fans would have been delighted to see that 2020’s Formula 3 title contender Logan Sargeant was on track with Campos, setting a final lap time of 1:43.137.

Overall it was an interesting session despite a number of stoppages as the drivers pushed their car’s to the limit and beyond.
