Théo Pourchaire was delighted with his P3, in the FIA Formula 2 qualifying session today.
“I was confident in quali today, the car felt good and I just pushed, and I ended up P3.”
Under the night-lights of the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, the Frenchman recovered from a lowly 13th in this afternoon’s Practice session, to take a third place start in Sunday’s Feature Race.
“Free Practice was really difficult this morning. Quali was fast, the PREMA’s look strong. P3 is a good result. We can do something this weekend and have a good Feature Race. I’m happy about that.”
With an abundance of enthusiasm, the ART Grand Prix driver was in great support of the new Saudi Arabian offering to formula motorsport:
“This track is amazing. I loved the quali.
“My favourite part is Sector 1, from Turn 4 to Turn 10 – this part is amazing. You have a lot of speed and you’re really close to the walls. If you do a little mistake on that track, for sure you’re crashing.”
He described how it took him the Practice session to get accustomed to the fast circuit.
“You need to have a lot of confidence. Now that I’ve drove on it a little bit I can clearly say it’s the fastest street circuit. It’s not easy.
“Free Practice for me was to get used to the F2, and get used to the track, to get some confidence. I was just trying things.
“We were not pushing like crazy, or we were not on point like PREMA. We improved a bit the car.”
Stating firmly how he wants to score a lot of points this weekend, he concluded, ‘I’m really happy about P3. It’s a really cool track and I’m really happy that now the track is on the calendar.”
