PREMA’s one-two finish in Saudi Arabia’s Feature Race meant that they were able to clinch the 2021 FIA Formula 2 teams’ championship, with only one more round remaining.
Robert Shwartzman took second in the Feature Race on Sunday where half points were awarded. It is his fourth consecutive teams’ championship with PREMA and their second together in Formula 2.
The Russian driver expressed his happiness at their accomplishment by saying, “Congrats to PREMA. It’s the fourth time that we take the team championship together, they really proved that they are the best, and I’m happy to be part of it.”
F2 championship leader, Oscar Piastri won Jeddah’s shortened Feature Race. His victory gave PREMA their seventh win of the 2021 season. Next weekend, he has the opportunity to win the drivers’ championship, with his nearest rival, PREMA team mate Shwartzman, some 51.5 points adrift.
Piastri reflected on the title and said, “Congratulations to the team on winning the team championship. That’s the biggest positive out of today. Now we are going to Abu Dhabi, the points gap for me is looking quite good, so it’s time to have some fun in the last round.”
The season will conclude this weekend in Abu Dhabi where only Piastri, Shwartzman, and Guanyu Zhou can mathematically win the drivers’ championship.
