PREMA Set to Maximise Results in Sochi

Round 10 of the 2020 Formula 2 Championship comes from the Black Sea resort, Sochi.

Leading the Drivers’ Championship as the feeder series nears its nail-biting end is Mick Schumacher, with 161 points.

This season has seen a tightly fought battle between PREMA’s Schumacher and Shwartzman; and Uni-Virtuosi’s Callum Ilott.

These aren’t the only drivers in with a shout, however. The top seven are within just 39 points of each other, with a maximum 144 points yet to play for.

With three race weekends left, Sochi will be key to the final outcome of the Formula 2 season.

Schumacher has the points advantage going into the weekend. However, Shwartzman is on home territory and there’ll be an enthusiastic crowd cheering him on.

A small audience was admitted at the Mugello circuit last time around and early reports are suggesting there’ll be a 30,000 strong crowd this weekend. Therefore, an authentic race atmosphere is expected.

Not only will theses factors boost Shwartzman’s performance, the memories of him lifting the Formula 3 Championship winner’s trophy for PREMA last season will still be fresh in his memory.

A triple threat is that the Russian is celebrating his 21st Birthday [September 16]. No doubt Shwartzman will be feeling highly motivated for the spoils this weekend.

PREMA are leading the Teams’ Championship by 40 points. With both Schumacher and Shwartzman in their camp the winner’s trophy is in the Vicenza team’s favour.

Rene Rosin – PREMA Team Principal

“Running at Sochi will be particularly exciting for us. We are leading the team standings, and we will field the championship leader and the home favourite, who is also in close pursuit in points. Pressure will be there for sure, but we always enter the weekend with the same hard-working attitude aimed at maximizing the result and not making mistakes. We will put both drivers in the best conditions, and support them as much as we can. We will see how it goes.”
