Roman Stanek claimed the final pole position of the 2025 Formula 2 season with a stellar lap, ahead of Jak Crawford and Invicta teammate Leonardo Fornaroli.

Initially, it looked as if the fight for pole would be between Crawford, Joshua Dürksen and Sebastián Montoya, with the trio setting the pace in the early part of qualifying at Yas Marina. They were separated by a tenth and a half, and looked the likeliest to remain atop the timesheets at the close of the session.

Yet as the final phase approached, it was the Czech driver who made his move, leaping to the top of the timesheets and remaining there until the chequered flag. This was his second pole position in Formula 2, and gives him and Invicta Racing two vital points for the Teams’ Championship.

With the Drivers’ Championship already wrapped up, the Teams’ Championship will be the main focus of the weekend – with Invicta Racing, Hitech TGR and Campos Racing all mathematically in the hunt. As it stands, Invicta Racing hold a 37 point advantage over second-placed Hitech, but with a Sprint Race and a Feature Race left to run, the results could still swing in either team’s favour.

At the lower end of the top 10, Arvid Lindblad claimed reverse grid Pole for tomorrow’s Sprint Race. The British driver recently claimed a promotion to Formula 1 with Racing Bulls – and this appears to have been a boost to his Formula 2 performance. Red Bull junior driver Nikola Tsolov will start alongside him on the front row, marking a front-row lockout for Campos Racing.

The Sprint Race starts at 16:15 local time on Saturday December 6th, with the Feature Race commencing at 13:15 local time on Sunday December 7th. Make sure to catch the action – as the Teams’ Championship will be decided in this Abu Dhabi showdown.
