Rafa Câmara came out on top after today’s FIA F2 Feature Race at Spa-Francorchamps alongside Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak in second and championship leader, Nikola Tsolov in third.
The Brazilian did very well to hold onto his pole position from the start of the race which was packed with multiple yellow flags, Safety Cars and one red flag that turned the lapped session into a timed session.
This is also the first time since 2020 that the pole-sitter has gone on to win Sunday’s Feature Race in Formula 2.
Through the busy race, Câmara showed his persistence and remained calm through the chaos:
“I think we did a very good job in the first part with the options and also the out lap was quite good.
“So, was looking very good for us and I think we were in a good position. You don’t really change the approach, you just focus and maximise what you can control and I think we did very well. I’m happy with the job we did today.”
This is the Invicta Racing driver’s second win of his rookie season in F2 and sits third in the championship just nine points behind Gabriele Minì, who finished fifth this time around the Belgian circuit.
The 36 point gap to Tsolov is still a large space to fill, but with half of the season left to go, it would be possible to have a rookie battle towards the end of the year in Abu Dhabi.
But is this at the forefront of the Brazilian’s mind?
“Of course it’s always nice to be there and fighting but in the end, the approach is always very similar. You’re just really focusing on yourself.
“It’s a very long way to go so just making sure we maximise what we can control and for sure, I hope that in the end we can be there fighting for this championship.”
Invicta has already produced modern F2 champions with Leonardo Fornaroli in 2025 and Gabriel Bortoleto in 2024, so it is extremely possible for the team to complete this for a third time in a row. But right now, Câmara is taking his points race by race.
Formula 2 continues next weekend in Budapest for the Hungarian Grand Prix from the 24th of July to the 26th of July, just before the drivers head into the summer break.
