Rafael Câmara’s latest pole position in FIA Formula 2 season highlighted the Brazilian’s extreme consistency this year.

The Invicta driver beat Rodin’s Alex Dunne by two tenths of a second to secure pole for Sunday’s Feature Race at Silverstone, and put him in prime position to close the gap to championship leader Gabriele Minì.

This is his third pole position this year, all being achieved in his rookie season and currently sitting at third in the championship standings. He has also never qualified outside of the top six during the 2026 season.

What does he think is the trick to a good lap? Or is it just luck on his side?

“I’ve always been good in a few laps with learning the way you need to do it especially in F2 and F3. In Free Practice, you don’t have a lot of time and going into Quali, also with another compound, it is a bit different.

“It helps a lot and obviously being in a good team, so always having a good and competitive car to be able to be fighting for pole and always be consistent at the front. I think this year has been very good, we’ve been at the front and hopefully we can continue the work and keep the same pace,” Câmara said.

The Ferrari Academy Driver was one of the last drivers to perform a brilliant lap around the British circuit, albeit beginning with a rocky start as he and a lot of other drivers struggled to keep their cars within the white lines in the first half.

The Invicta Racing driver offered insight as to what goes through his mind when he thinks he’s created a pole position lap time:

He said: “When you close a lap, you don’t really know where you are but I was feeling good and felt like it was enough to be at the front.

“Already from Free Practice, I was feeling good with the car and also doing the second lap, I knew we had a chance to be fighting. I was quite happy with that, it was a good lap.

“Everything was in place and for sure is a nice place to start on Sunday, tomorrow it makes things a bit more interesting. But we’re going to try our best.”

Gabriele Minì and Nikola Tsolov are the only two drivers ahead of Câmara in the championship, with one being a seasoned driver and the other being another rookie. But there is only 26 points that split the three of them apart and two more points that would drop him below Alex Dunne.

Câmara will start 10th for Saturday’s Sprint Race, so is it better to focus on Sunday or compete with what’s next?

“Every moment, I just focus race by race. Just try to see what we can maximise,” Câmara said. “On Sunday we will have good chances, try to maximise where we can take it.

“I’m looking forward to both races, at the moment it’s looking like no rain chance, that makes things more interesting. But making sure we prepare well for both races.

“There’s definitely a good chance starting from P1, it makes your life easier but now Monaco was not that case. So 50/50, maybe I crash tomorrow or on Sunday.

“Jokes aside, just focusing race by race and see how we go, making sure we prepare in a good way, we are ready for every scenario and hopefully we can catch some good points.”

Formula 2 continues this weekend with the Sprint Race at 13:45 local time on Saturday the 4th of July and the Feature Race at 11:15 local time on Sunday the 5th of July.
