On Dutch home soil, Richard Verschoor treated us to a masterful and measured drive in the Feature Race at Zandvoort.
Starting P14, the flying Dutchman gave the orange army and his Dutch team Van Amersfoort Racing something to shout about by finishing P4 with a sensational drive. Going for the overcut paid off for Verschoor and he took full advantage of the Safety Car on Lap 12.
From then on in, the Dutchman didn’t look back and was so measured in maintaining his pace right up until the chequered flag, an immensely mature drive from the 22-year-old driver.
After the race, he chatted to InsideF2 to chat about his Feature Race, Pre-Race targets and his thoughts about Zandvoort being absent from the calendar next year.
“It was great! I think we had good pace on the soft and that is why I jumped quite a few cars during the pitstop.”.
“Then of course we got lucky with the Safety Car but, no it was good then from there on I had good pace on the Mediums, it was not ideal with the car but it was manageable”.
Zandvoort being a difficult circuit to pass cars due to its nature, it was expected to be a race similar to Hungary where there would be limited opportunities to make progress up the field. Verschoor showed how the result must have exceeded his expectations.
“I would have signed for this upfront”.
Zandvoort will not be featuring on the FIA Formula 2 calendar in 2024 and the Dutchman shared his thoughts of not racing at his home circuit next season.
“It’s a shame, I wish we could go back here. Somehow we always have amazing races, of course, this time it was to my advantage.”
“Yeah it’s a shame especially for myself because I am Dutch but, it was nice to race here for this time”.
The Orange Army were out in full force supporting all the action on track and Richard echoed praise for their continued support over the weekend.
“The fans were amazing”.
