Earlier today, insideF2 had the opportunity to catch up with Campos’ Roberto Merhi.
Merhi is currently standing in for an injured Ralph Boschung and has been competing this season since the Austrian round.
In Austria, he picked up a podium in his first Feature Race since his return but since then, he hasn’t been able to score.
On Friday’s qualifying session, he was the 20th fasted car and was seemingly disappointed with his result.
Speaking to insideF2, he explained what he thinks is holding him back from more podium finishes like at the Red Bull Ring:
“This weekend has already been worse than Paul Ricard. We’re struggling a lot with the adaptation with the car and the car is not the way I want”. He continued to explain that he hadn’t had as many laps to prepare before qualifying.
“This [F2] car requires a really special driving style, it’s really hard. I don’t think no one can come here without being racing for a long time and go in the car and be quick”.
When asked about the technical aspect of the track he explained the difficulties facing his Campos at the moment.
“This weekend the problem that we are having is trying to understand. Also, we don’t have any reference here to understand with me and, of course, Oliver [Caldwell] is a rookie”.
Merhi will start today’s Sprint Race from 20th on the grid and with rain (potentially) being in the air, the chance for points is increased for him, and those around him.
