PREMA Racing’s Team Principal Rene Rosin has urged his team to retain the positive momentum that saw the Italian based outfit open up a sizeable gap on UNI-Virtuosi during the first half of the season.
The Veneto based team come into the fifth round of the 2021 season leading both championships, with PREMA driver Oscar Piastri leading UNI-Virtuosi’s Guanyu Zhou in the driver’s championship by five points whilst PREMA lead the teams’ championship by 37 points ahead of UNI-Virtuosi.
Monza has been a happy hunting ground for PREMA since they arrived into GP2/F2 in 2016, with Antonio Giovinazzi taking victory in the Feature Race in front of the Tifosi, with countryman and fellow Ferrari junior Antonio Fuoco making it back to back wins for the team at Monza in the Feature Race.
Last year saw a turning point in the championship for both PREMA and Mick Schumacher, who capitalised from an excellent start and Callum Ilott’s misfortune to win the Feature Race ahead of Luca Ghiotto, with the German going on to win the Formula 2 Championship and graduate to Formula 1 with Haas.
However, despite his team’s superb start to the season, Rosin has stated that his team must continue their good form from the first half of the season and make as few mistakes as possible as they chase their third team’s championship.
“We line up at Monza to keep our positive momentum and possibly gain some traction ahead of the final part of the year. Normally, there is already little room for mistakes in this series, but as the season progresses, the chances to recover from every potential issue become less and less.”
“We are extremely determined to keep up the work. We are aware of our potential, as we are leading the championship and have two proven winners behind the wheel, but the approach will need to be as focused as ever to maximise our performance and results.”
