Rosin: Prema Team did a ‘Mega Job’ in Spain

Prema had quite the weekend after winning both the Sprint Race and the Feature with both of their drivers and topping every session in Barcelona.

They extended their championship lead in the teams’ standings and also the drivers’ standings with Frederik Vesti.

InsideF2 Editor and motorsport journalist, Jim Kimberley caught up with team owner, René Rosin after Ollie Bearman dominated the Feature Race in Spain.

“The team did a mega job in Formula 2… P1 in Free Practice, pole position, win in the Feature Race with a massive drive from Fred on the wets and on the slicks with a pit stop in the middle.”

“Mega race today for both drivers, Ollie did an incredible race on a difficult circuit as Barcelona where the tyre deg is quite affecting, he managed very well. In the traffic… he was able to overtake very quickly so I’m really really happy.”

“Also Fred, he scored important points. P5, fastest lap time of the top 10, if I’m not wrong. Important points for the championship.”

He confirmed that the plan was always to choose the alternate strategy with Vesti. He started seventh on the grid for the Feature Race and managed to work his way to P5, just behind Ayumu Iwasa who defended brilliantly to keep Vesti at bay.

“We know that we have a  good rhythm and Fred is able to manage tyres.”

“Of course we were pushing to, both, overtake and his engineer was telling him, ‘Listen, it’s P5, it’s good point for the championship, let’s bring home the car in a good position’. Honestly he did a good job- a mega job.”

Bearman managed to clear the alternate runners in no time after pitting for the hard tyres. He also held off Enzo Fittipaldi behind him in second.

“Ollie is doing a really great job. Once he does a mistake, it happens in the past and he learns from the mistake, this is the great characteristic of a driver, being able to improve and to learn from the lesson of the mistakes.”

“Last weekend he did a mistake in Quali, sorry- in Free Practice… and the results were not there but this week he bounced back and took pole position and Feature win so, mega job”.
