Stanek: “We made good progress” after post-season testing

Roman Stanek completed Formula 2’s Abu Dhabi post-season testing with Trident, InsideF2.com spoke exclusively with him post-session in the paddock.

The Czech driver completed 92 laps during the third and final day of testing for Trident, “we made good progress” after conducting some full race simulations with a 1:39.365 to finish 17th during the afternoon’s programme.

Stanek performed admirably in FIA F3 this season finishing fifth in the championship taking one victory at Imola.

The 18-year-old explained when asked by InsideF2 that he made a step forward during the test and emphasised the importance of staying positive over the winter.

“Another day of testing, we made some progress unfortunately you couldn’t see it on the lap times because we were unlucky with traffic.

“It was quite hard but we made good progress and we know what we have to work on for the next test and let’s stay positive and work hard.”

The 18-year-old drove for the Italian team this season and during the test, he explained he enjoys working with Italians: “I like to work with Italian people and I know them already from the past season so it was quite easy for me to fall into the group.”

Clement Novalak finished 14th in Formula 2 for MP Motorsport this season and enjoyed a best result of second in the Sprint Race at Zandvoort.

Novalak completed 72 laps during the final day of testing in Abu Dhabi, he finished third in the afternoon session on Day 3 behind Kush Maini and Rafael Villagómez.

The 21-year-old will compete in his second full season in FIA F2 next year and is yet to score a victory but has steadily improved on the track.

The Frenchman heaped praise on Stanek and is eagerly anticipating their potential partnership in 2023.

“My team mate’s amazing, he’s a lovely geezer, he’s going to be a good partner for next year and we’re going to have some fun.”
