After winning the FIA Formula 2 Sprint Race in Spielberg, but retiring out of the Feature, Marcus Armstrong, knows he needs to qualify higher up the grid to continue driving his Drivers’ Championship campaign forward.
Feeling like he made too many mistakes on his second run in Qualifying, the 10th place start put him in a vulnerable position on the opening lap, and he was tagged off the circuit, putting an end to a race he felt he, ‘could have won.’
“I think quali is obviously the big one. We all strive to do the perfect lap, and certainly that’s my focus for this week.”
Despite winning the Sprint Race, the New Zealander knows he needs to maximise his feature race results, to improve his sixth place in the drivers standings; being 85 points behind Championship leader, Felipe Drugovich.
“The big points are won in the Feature Race, so we do need to nail quali. And to nail quali we need to nail Free Practice and get a rhythm going, so that’s my immediate target.”
Having driven for DAMS and ART in previous F2 seasons, the Hitech team are providing the Kiwi with a pretty good machine, that’s keeping the Silverstone based team within reach of the Teams’ Championship title.
“I think the race pace has been consistently quite good. So, on that side I’m feeling confident we just need to do what we can do tomorrow.”
