Round 02 - Monte Carlo Street Circuit
The second round of the 2021 F2 season will be taking place at Monaco. Monaco is the most famous track on the F2 calendar and has been a stalwart of the series ever since it’s introduction back in 2005. The twisty streets of the principality are iconic and host some of Motorsports most well known corners such as Lowes hairpin, the Swimming pool chicane and Rascasse.
The Monaco Circuit is 2 miles long and features almost zero margin for error with barriers lining every corner. Monaco has been raced on for nearly a century with the first race being held back in 1929. Over the years Monacos race ending barriers have even caught out some of the best to ever drive a racing car including Ayrton Senna, Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel.
The layout itself is incredibly eye catching, Turn 1 at Sainte Devote is the circuits best overtaking possibility with DRS on the pit straight a lunge up the inside is certainly possible although highly risky. The Nouvelle chicane also offers a chance to make a move meanwhile Rascasse and Antony Noghes make up the final two corners, both of them are slow speed right handers but critical to a good lap time around Monaco.
Monacos narrowness makes overtaking extremely difficult therefore qualifying is absolutely essential to a successful weekend.
F2 has created some great racing on the famous street circuit over the years including Artem Markelovs stunning Feature Race victory in 2018 and Anthoine Huberts terrific drive just a year later in 2019 to claim the win in the Sprint race brilliantly defending from Louis Deletraz all the way to the Chequered Flag.
