Yet another new name on the top step in the Formula 2 Championship as Yuki Tsunoda turns his quiet race into a triumph.
Tsunoda was in a comfortable third place with sights on a P3 finish when race leaders Robert Shwartzman and Mick Schumacher collided just two laps before the chequered flag.
Speaking with @fiaf2championship, Yuki said:
We are happy to take P1 today. Congrats to my other colleague. He did a good job in the other car. Quite tough race. PREMA guys were really fast in the beginning.
I knew they would struggle in the end so I saved my tyres as much as possible. Prepared for the end and that was good. A bit lucky for overtaking the PREMAs. Good pace. Happy to be taking first P1 here.
Referring to the beginning of the Sprint Race he said::
I had a good start and gained a bit during lap one.
This kept him in good contention for a podium.
Being in the right place at the right time he took full advantage of PREMA’s misfortunes.

COVID guidelines to one side, the photographs clearly show the joy behind the mask.
This season’s Formula 2 Drivers’ Championship could be anybody’s.
There’s no clear winner.
What is apparent is the wealth of talent.
The high standards mixed with avoidable mistakes are making this year arguably the most exciting.
