After a perfect race from championship leader Richard Verschoor, he spoke to InsideF2 writer Aaron Harper on his Feature Race win in Austria.
It’s the Dutch driver’s third win overall this season after making the switch from Trident to race with MP Motorsport for the final two rounds of 2024 and through 2025.
Verschoor qualified third, behind Leonardo Fornaroli and Victor Martins and the dream getaway off the line put him in great stead for the rest of the race.
He was able to pass Martins on Lap 1 and took the net race lead after the pit stop stages back from Martins who managed to pull off the undercut.
In the closing laps, Dunne was hot on Verschoor’s gearbox but ultimately couldn’t keep up with his title rival, despite a couple of close attempts.
Dunne was later disqualified from the Feature Race due to a technical infringement, dropping him 24 points behind in the drivers’ standings.
Speaking on his victory:
“I had a very good start and from there, on both compounds I think we had good pace.
“Alex [Dunne] definitely didn’t make my life easy today. Even though the gap maybe did seem big, like 2 seconds but we both were going flat out, and any mistake would give him more motivation to do more so I tried to hang on even though the rears were degrading quite a bit.
“It was a good race, I’m really happy.”
When asked if everything was under control, Verschoor explained his gratitude for his race engineer who was giving him regular updates on the gap to Dunne throughout the race:
“I was just trying to push as little as I could but not lose time and therefore I needed some help from the team.
“Even though I could see them from behind, the more specific they could tell me the better. I’m happy that they helped me well.”
Verschoor also spoke about his rivalry with Dunne, claiming he’s enjoying the winning feeling, but knows he needs to stay on top consistently.
“Every time when I’m there, Alex is there. I need to make sure I do the same, when he is there I need to be there. It looks like the orange cars are quick this year.”
