Following the terrifying crash at the start of Jeddah’s FIA Formula 2 Feature Race, Charouz have announced that Richard Verschoor will drive in place of Enzo Fittipaldi for this weekend’s season finale at Abu Dhabi.
After the worrying incident on the starting grid, it is a huge relief for all motorsport fans that Fittipaldi is currently recovering well. He has been posting regular updates on his Twitter, and on Monday morning, he reassured his followers that he is well.
The Brazilian-American, unfortunately, will not be fit enough to compete in the upcoming round in the championship, but we hope to see him return soon.
He will be replaced by former MP Motorsport driver, Richard Verschoor. Verschoor has competed in six of the seven rounds so far this year and the Dutchman currently sits tenth in the standings. If he holds onto that position he would be rewarded with three super licence points.
So far in 2021, Verschoor has put together an impressive campaign. He is one of ten race winners on the grid this year, which he claimed in the second Sprint Race at Silverstone.
However, due to financial reasons, he hasn’t had the most straightforward season. The announcement that he’d be taking part in the series came only days before the season opener in Bahrain, and he’s never had a contract for the entire season.
Over the break between Sochi and Jeddah, MP announced that Formula 3 stars, Clément Novalak and Jack Doohan would finish the season for them, in place of Verschoor and Lirim Zendeli. Verschoor has been given the opportunity to finish his campaign with Charouz Racing System.
All of us at InsideF2 wish Enzo Fittipaldi a smooth and speedy recovery and hope that he will be able to return soon.
