F2 rookie Frederik Vesti is embracing his partnership with team mate Théo Pourchaire ahead of the new FIA Formula 2 season.
The Danish driver makes the step up from Formula 3 this year and stays with ART Grand Prix, with whom he finished fourth last season.
His new team mate – Théo Pourchaire – is the highest returning driver this year after an impressive rookie season in 2021, and is one of the favourites for this year’s title.
In motorsport, outperforming your team mate is one of the keys to success, meaning you share the garage with your biggest rival. However, when speaking to F2 media, Vesti was looking forward to forming a partnership with Pourchaire.
“The relationship [with Pourchaire] has been really good. We both raced together back in F3, and we had a really great fight. Finally being team mates with him is actually quite a good experience because Théo is a really nice guy. He is really team-focused, and I can learn a lot from him.
“Obviously last year he had an incredible season, I’m up against a really strong guy, but I’m really motivated to do the best I can, to improve, and to move forward as a team”
Vesti is the first Mercedes Junior driver to compete in F2 since George Russell, who clinched the title back in 2018 and is now embarking on his first season in the Mercedes F1 seat.
After two consecutive fourth-placed finishes in Formula 3, Vesti will hope to emulate Russell’s success in F2, and impress his bosses at Mercedes.
Although outperforming Pourchaire would reflect well on him, the partnership should help Vesti to improve and gain more success in F2.
