PREMA Racing’s Frederik Vesti secured second position in Friday’s qualifying session in Spielberg, which came as a surprise to the Danish driver considering his own criticisms of the lap.
“Our goal every single race is to be inside the top five in qualifying, and we definitely achieved that,”
Vesti told InsideF2’s Fraser Ford after the session that despite a flawed lap, pole position “was there” for the taking.
“I would say I made a few mistakes on the lap, so to be P2, I was actually a little bit surprised with that. It just shows the car is good, and that we need to continue fighting like this.”
Vesti also expressed his intention to maximize his points haul in Saturday’s Sprint Race, where he will aim to “grab as many points as we can” from ninth on the starting grid.
The PREMA driver currently leads the standings with 110 points to Théo Pourchaire’s 99 points in second place.
