Vips has the Experience
This weekend will be a first for many of the FIA Formula 2 drivers as the Championship heads to Mugello, Italy.
The track is known for its fast corners and its long straights so we will be looking forward to seeing all of the high speed overtaking going into Turn 1.
Juri Vips has had to learn the ropes on the 2020 Formula 2 car on the fly but having had now two races under his belt he will be keen to get back on track and focus on delivering more points for the team.
The pace is clearly in the car as we saw not only in Monza but throughout the season as Dan Ticktum keeps delivering results. Regardless if they have later been taken away from him or not.
The Estonian driver commented that he has experience at the Tuscan circuit and hope’s this will bode well for him in round nine of the season;
“I was there in F4 and went very well, every time I have run there I’ve been really fast, poles, won races, I enjoy it a lot,” enthuses the 20-year-old Estonian DAMS driver. “It will be very different in an F2 car for sure but I am confident that I will enjoy the extra performance. I think that the Qualifying will be all right, not quite like Monza. I think the steering will get quite heavy in the long, high speed corners but that is not a problem for me, more of an advantage.”
“In the race it will be crucial to have good tyre management so that is something I still need to work on. I think it was quite good in Race 2 last weekend but this is a completely different challenge with different types of corners so I really need to be on top of that.”
